They've done this to improve the quality of the CTR. They've done it for a) Publishers, b) Google.com, HOWEVER they haven't done it for GMAIL ads - they're still running the larger clickable areas. Do you think that they'll fix this in the new Gmail system? I just upgraded an old Yahoo account to their new beta email version and they have a split screen where you can view your messages. This was nice for quickly looking at emails to clear my inbox. I still however prefer gmail overall. I'm sure this upgrade will feature something similar. I am anxious to see the new features that Google ads.
