New Gmail ver!

Gmail has a new architecture that improves the performance and the usability. Now you can use the back button in your browser and bookmark URLs from different Gmail views because the URLs change when you go to a different section. The messages are prefetched when Gmail loads so you don’t have to wait too much until a message is displayed.

Gmail Supports IMAP
One of the most requested Gmail features was the addition of IMAP support. You’re always connected to the server, more clients can connect to the same account, you can obtain the text from a message without the attachments and the state information is synchronized.
Gmail added IMAP support, but you’ll have to enable it by going to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Because the new feature is slowly rolled-out, you may not see it, but rest assured it will be available in the next days. Gmail’s help provides more information about configuring your client, whether it’s Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, Blackberry, iPhone, Windows Mobile or Symbian device. You should also make sure you use these recommended settings.

Updated Gmail mobile
The new version works on most phones that are Java ME enabled. For BlackBerry devices, you can continue to download the previous version from the same site.
The new version of Gmail for mobile is faster than before — and consumes a lot less data. It also has a number of new features, including:
* more than 30 percent faster overall, and 80 percent faster for some tasks
* a contacts viewer to view your all Gmail contacts and addresses
* an outgoing mail footer to let your recipients know you’ve sent an email from a mobile device
* click-to-call phone numbers which you can call without retyping the number
* emails are saved for later re-editing if connection drops or if you want to perform another task before sending out the message
* Gmail keyboard shortcuts to perform tasks faster (on phones with full keyboards).

4 GB free storage (6 GB on 4 Janary)
Gmail will increase the free storage gradually in the next days. On October 23, you’ll get 4321 MB of storage, then the growth will slow down until January 4, when you’ll have 6283 MB of storage. From January 4, you’ll receive 3.3 MB every day, that’s 10 times bigger than the current rate of growth.
Another good news is that Google Apps mail accounts will have the same quota as standard Gmail accounts, while Google Apps Premier Edition will have 25 GB mail accounts. Previously, Google Apps accounts had 2 GB of storage, while the business edition offered 10 GB per account.
Gmail didn’t abandon the paid storage option, but you’ll get around 50% more storage for the same price: 10 GB for $20/year, 40 GB for $75/year, 150 GB for $250/year and 400 GB for $500/year. The paid storage will probably become more attractive when Google adds more services, like Google Docs, JotSpot or GDrive.
