The Gmail services by Google Inc were down for nearly 30 hours. Some Google Apps customers were also affected by the outage. Google said that the Gmail problem is fixed.
Gmail, an e-mail service hosted by Google, was down for nearly 30 hours. However, Google said the outage only affected a small number of Gmail users. Gmail users expressed their outage on several blogs.

12 Dec 06 Get mail from other accounts
Now Gmail can check for the mail you receive at your other email accounts.
You can retrieve your mail (new and old) from up to five other email accounts and have them all in Gmail. Then you can even create a customized ‘From:’ address, which lets you send messages from Gmail, but have them look like they were sent from another one of your email accounts.
Please note that you can only retrieve mail from accounts that have POP3 access enabled.

24 Apr 06 Get Yahoo Mail Beta
To get Yahoo Mail Beta, just switch your content preference to Germany, France or UK.
Then you will be asked if you want to join the beta when you log into your Yahoo Mail.
Say yes, and join the beta.
Then from the options menu, change your content preference what it was before. Then go to Yahoo Mail again.
You should see Yahoo Beta.
If you don’t see it, go to options and click “Try Beta” button. That’s all.

How to change your content preference:
* log in to Yahoo Mail
* click Options
* select Account information from the left panel
* go to Member Information, General Preferences, Preferred Content
* select, for example, Yahoo UK
* click Finished
* go to Yahoo Mail
* you’ll see a page that says “It’s the New Yahoo! Mail Beta… and you’re invited.”
* click on “Try Beta Now”.

GMail has been a great tool I’ve used to help keep track of alot of my work e-mails, marketing articles, details on promotional products etc. and have them indexed by a powerful search algorithm – and access them anywhere thanks to Google 
Forwarding useful resources, articles, links to my GMail account has proven to be an effective archive/record keeping tool for me.If you haven’t been lucky enough to receive an invite to the GMail service (I’m saying lucky – but i’m sure you know someone by now who has GMail and is willing to invite you) you can now receive invites directly from the mothership itself.
A text link at the bottom of the search engines home page reads:Advanced spam filter, instant search, 2.6GB. Get Google Mail.Visit google.com.au to get your invite. Simply click the link at the bottom of the page, and enter your mobile phone number, and Google will SMS your invitation code.
